The Dawn

The Dawn (1)

A very young Walter, 14 years old, embarks on a quest to Poland in September, 1944. With him is a coffin. Back in England, Arthur Hellsing tells the young Knights about his plans to use his 'Angel of Death' to gain leverage against some occultist Nazis. Speaking of them, the Major of 1944 arrives at a Nazis base with the Captain to speak with the Doc about how their experiments are going. Walter arrives overhead and kicks the coffin overboard to begin his mission.

The Dawn (2)

Arthur and the young Sir Islands meet at the Hellsing manor to discuss a number of things. Despite Arthur's spiking Islands' tea with alcohol and the continued interruptions by random women and Islands' outbursts, things still seem to be going according to plan. The Major has sat down to enjoy a nice candle-lit dinner, about to discuss matters with the Doc, just as Walter arrives to (quite literally) crash the party.

The Dawn (3)

A quick exchange of words ensues between Walter and the Major, who is still eating contently despite Walter standing on the table. Walter kicks a knife at the Major, which Hans catches with his bare hands. Soldiers burst into the room and fire at the Shinigami but he jumps out of the way and looses his wires to kill them all. In the end, Hans catches the wires with his bare hands too, catching Walter for a moment as the Major asks Walter to join him. Walter refuses, the Major and the Doc leave, and Walter and the Captain are left to fight it out. Unbeknowest to anyone, the coffin Walter brought with him is collecting blood at its base.

The Dawn (4)

Walter and Hans seem to be at a stalemate. Despite punches, wires, head-smashes, kicking and jumping around, neither can seem to get the upper hand. However, Walter gets cocky and tries getting the wires around Hans' neck. Hans simply takes it and grabs Walter by the throat, beginning to strangle him. Walter seems beaten, until the blood pooling around the coffin causes its contents to fire a rain of bullets, shooting Hans' right arm off. None other than Alucard emerges from the casket for a bit of fun.

The Dawn (5)

Alucard and Walter bare witness to an unexpected transformation on the Captain's part as he regenerates the hand he lost moments before. To Walter's surprise and Alucard's glee, Hans is a werewolf! The Major and Doc converse briefly as the Captain and two young Hellsing agents face off, neither landing much damage on the other; a perfect three-way stalemate.

The Dawn (6)

Walter takes a turn on the backburner as Hans goes after Alucard. He manages to kick Alucard's guts (and arm) out before he regenerates on a newly formed coffin. It sprouts arms and legs and runs around, taking Alucard into another room where he briefly encounters a much younger Rip Van Winkle. The coffin hits her on the back of her head and knocks her out though and we're left with a ridiculous chapter that gives us no indication of what might happen next. The whole thing was one big 'Luke and Jan Weather Report.' Literally. I think Hirano's forgotten what the point of 'The Dawn' was.
